1997 ASME STUDENT DESIGN CONTEST
Instructions for Handling Regional Winners

• This year the winners of the Regional Student Design Contests will be able to keep their winning device in their possession at the conclusion of the Regional competition. The devices will NOT be impounded as in previous years. Each winning team will be responsible for getting its device (and itself) to the IMECE ("The Congress") prior to the National contest.

  Teams may modify and improve their devices to any extent they desire during the period between the Regional and National competitions.

  This change represents a new approach to this competition. The Regional competitions are now to be viewed as the mechanism for determining the TEAM which did the best job in preparing for the Regional competition. The team is then free to prepare its "game plan" for winning the national competition.

  The Student Design Contest Committee believes this approach will make for a more exciting (and often less frustrating) competition at the national level.
