Special Arrangements for Region XIII

for the
ASME Student Design Contest

Dealines for the 1998 Contest

The final date for the Letter of Intent to Enter is April 27, 1998, which should be submitted to; Prof. Hetsroni, Vice President, Region XIII.

The final date for the submission of the videos of design projects together with The Submittal Form is May 15th, 1998.

Procedure for Choosing the Regional Winner

Because of the global travel required for a single Regional student competition in the newly-formed Region XIII the Regional Vice President and his appointees have designed a special procedure for choosing their representative.

In Region XIII a Selection Committee consisting of three to five ASME Members chosen from industries and universities will be formed for each participating Student Section. The Selection Committee will run a live competition for the Student Section following the "Recommended Guidelines for Conducting the Contest" to select the first, second and third place winners. These top three winners will be required to record a video tape of no more than fifteen minutes duration to explain clearly the principles on which their device operates and to show an actual run of of their design.

Each  Selection Committee will submit the three video tapes to the Judging Panel appointed by the Vice President of Region XIII.  The Judging Panel will select the first, second and third place winners for the Region.  The first place winner in Region XIII will compete at the finals as described in the General Rules.

In Region XIII up to five sets of Radio Shack motors and batteries, pitcher and receiver boxes can be supplied to each Student Section upon the request of the ASME Faculty Advisors. The request should be addressed to any of the following:
