Year 2000 ASME STUDENT DESIGN CONTEST
General Rules

Any participant must be a Student Member of ASME who is enrolled as an
undergraduate in a baccalaureate engineering degree program at any time
during the 1999-2000 academic year.

The contest is open to individuals but teams of two to four members are
encouraged. No team may have more than four members. An Individual may
participate on only one team. Each team may only have one entry. There
is no restriction on the number of teams allowed from each Student Section.
- Each potential team is required to submit a Letter
of Intent to Enter to the appropriate Regional
Office at least two weeks prior to the scheduled regional event. Contact
your Regional Office for the date and location of your regional competition.

Any questions regarding the contest rules or problem statement must be
submitted by e-mail or in writing to:

All questions must be postmarked on or before Saturday January 15, 2000.
Please review the Questions
& Answers pages before posting a new question. Copies of all questions
and answers will be posted on the Internet. Questions and answers will be
posted as soon as responses are available.
- At the Regional Student Conference (RSC), in addition to the prototype,
each team must submit the required Submittal
Form.
- Each RSC is entitled to select one team to enter the final national competition.
The regional winner must meet all of the problem
statement and Question
& Answer bulletin requirements. All regional selections must be made
on or before June 1, 2000. Decisions made by the Region Vice President or
by his or her designated representatives are absolutely final.

The regional winners will compete at ASME's International Mechanical Engineering
Congress and Exposition (IMECE or "The Congress") held in Orlando, FL on
Sunday, November 5, 2000. The order of performance will be determined by
lot. The first, second, and third place winners will be invited to display
their prototype at the ASME National Design Engineering Conference in Chicago
in the spring of 2001.

In order to qualify for the travel allowances, all contestants must still
be Student Members in good standing or, if graduated, must have upgraded
to Associate Member and be in good standing.
NOTE: Any earlier deadlines for entry into a competition and/or
submittal of entry information published by any ASME Region take precedence
over any deadlines or submittal information requirements/deadlines published
in these rules.
